The Doctors and Staff of Tempe Eyecare Associates are committed to providing you state-of-the-art eye care services and products, in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

Through annual comprehensive eye examinations our goal is to not only maximize your visual performance but to ensure and maintain your eye health. We recommend a yearly examination as a wise investment in the protection of your eyesight.

As part of your examination, visual acuity (the sharpness of vision) will be measured and a test known as a refraction is conducted to determine your eyes' refractive power. Further tests are performed to determine your visual coordination, muscle control, and focusing abilities.

Your examination will also include a comprehensive evaluation of your eye health to detect diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retina and optic nerve abnormalities. The ocular health evaluation includes neurological assessments, measurement of internal eye pressure, and a thorough examination of the internal and external structures of the eye.

To best view your eyes' internal health, dilating eye drops will likely be used. These drops cause the iris to open wide, providing unobstructed observations of your eyes' internal structures. While your eyes are dilated, close work or reading may be difficult, and viewing in bright sunlight will be uncomfortable. We recommend that you wear dark sunglasses outdoors, following your exam.

Tempe Eyecare Associates also offers the OptoMap retinal examination system. OptoMap allows many patients the option to forgo dilating drops by providing an ultra-wide view of the retina. While it doesn’t replace dilation in all patients, it is an option for many.

After performing these tests our doctors will discuss your results, explain your prescription, and give you a better understanding of your overall eye health. Traditional options such as glasses, contact lenses, and eye medications will be discussed.

Refractive surgery options will also be presented to those patients who have an interest and are candidates for the various procedures available.

In the event that you choose to wear contact lenses, additional services beyond a comprehensive eye examination will be performed. When appropriate, we will also present more advanced treatment options such as specialty contact lens fittings or eye surgery.
